We have a surgery date for Alice.
Monday, December 22. She is having surgery on her foot. Anyone who hasn't heard I will share without the pictures. One Sunday in July she was complaining about her foot hurting and when I looked at her foot it looked like someone had stuck a golf ball under her skin right on top of her foot. We took her to urgent care and they xrayed it and said oh it is probably a bone spur or a calcium deposit and you will need to go see a podiatrist. Man I don't normally have Kaiser complaints, but when it came to getting into the podiatrist it took forever! We couldn't get her in until her birthday! So at that appointment the doc said well not sure it could be several things but it is not a bone spur or a calcium deposit. We need to open it up to get a good look.
us: HELLO?? Isn't there something non-invasive?
Doc: Well an MRI could be done
us: UM YES lets do that first
so we did the MRI and went back. He says well it appears to be a ganglion cyst but we can't tell for sure what is attached to.
Doc: you have a couple options I could drain it off and inject a steroid that will drain it but the recurrence rate is 85%
or we can go ahead and open it up and remove it completely and that has a recurrence rate of 5%
US: Well lets open that puppy up and get rid of it! We want the one with the lower recurrence rate.
So now we are on a surgery wait. They told me a couple of weeks ago that it wouldn't be till February that she could get in. Kaiser surgery is apparently pretty slow. So we lucked out and we got in a little earlier. Good thing too because this poor kid is having a hard time walking around this thing hurts like heck and seems to be growing.
Boy aren't you glad I shared all of that?
