Back to Life, Back to Reality...

So I haven't blogged since last school year ended in June.  So much has happened.  Seems like I spent more time sick than not this summer.  I ended up in the hospital the end of June due to a lovely combo of Allergies, Asthma, and Pneumonia.  It really did me in and we had to call an ambulance.  I even did nearly a month long stint on oxygen.  So much fun.  The kids did a lot of playing, riding bikes, and reading for their summer break.  We had some small celebrations so it was good.  We need to find time to get out and meet people.  We are still just us for these things.  I guess we have fun and that is all that matters.
So School has started once again.

Chad on 1st day of 11th grade

Chad is up at the highschool for his Junior year.  He is thrilled to be taking an AP Music theory class this year and a 3rd year of French.  He is really quick with the French and can have really in depth conversations in French.  I guess he has a passion for something other than music and girls.

Rachel 1st day of 9th grade
Rachel is schooling at home with K12 the Oregon Virtual Academy.  She loves early morning seminary.  I am glad to see her come home so happy about the gospel and what she learned.  She only has 1 elective this year.  I am not sure if we will stay with K12 next year or if we will go back to Connections academy next year.  It will depend on elective choices.  So far she is loving the independent learning and doing well with it.  She gets to go to home ball games and hang out with her friends.  She is proudly sporting the maroon and gold Viking colors!  She is pretty excited about the homecoming parade and game.  She is hoping someone from the school will ask her to the dance.  sigh she has grown up on me too.

Grace first day of 8th grade
Grace is the other one still in a brick and mortar school.  She is an 8th grader this year.  This will be her 4th year of playing clarinet.  Do to a mix up when the school changed some scheduling software most of the kids that were in Honors language arts got put into non honors classes.  So I agreed to let her stay out of honors this year.  We will see what happens next year!

Jill 1st day of 5th grade

Jill is a 5th grader.  Our last year of elementary school.  She too is schooling at home with K12.  We are getting into the swing of it and getting used to a new routine.  I like that she can be really independent and I can work on a project while she works.  I am also right here guiding her through a lesson when needed.  I forgot how much I loved schooling at home.

OK so you can remember for next year:  September 19th is National Talk Like a Pirate Day.  So this year we found out Krispy Kreme was giving out a free donut to those that came in talking like a pirate and a whole dozen to those dressed up too!  So Alice, Rachel, and Jill got in on the fun!
The Pirate 3 with their booty!
