Prom Time!

I can't believe Chad is old enough for the Prom! The Church has a Prom or a Priest/Laural formal for the kids 16-18 in our area. I know they have been popping up all over, but I don't know if it is church wide now. Anyway it means Chad will actually get to go 3 times! The school dances have gotten so nasty that we just don't let them go. Anyway several months ago when Chad realized he would get to go to Prom he was excited to go. He has been working hard to earn the money to pay for Prom expenses. I have been telling him for months that he needs to start thinking about a date and ask someone and he kept saying "I know" or "I will soon" or any other thing it took to get me to shut up. So a couple of weeks ago when he still had no date he said he would just go by himself. I thought OK, but not as fun as going with a date. Well I didn't know that the turkey had a date! He only asked her on Wednesday, but he had told friends and all of his sisters! He wasn't planning to tell mom and dad till dad was driving him to the dance and then it was going to be "hey dad I need to stop and pick up a friend." Nice! He was a really nice brother on Saturday and took the girls on a bike ride to the library, 2 trips even. Jill let the beans out on accident at about 4:30. So I got all excited and said to hubby why not run to Safeway and see if they can make some sort of small corsage at this late time. The florist there made one in 10 minutes! She said she had never made one so quick. So then Chad calls me and says can my date come to dinner at our house? umm sure, but we are bbqing chicken, not really formal dress type of food. So he gets home and I say ok where does this girl live? Ready for this bomb shell???? SHE LIVES IN TOWN!!!!!! All the way back over near where we used to live 30 minutes away!!!! We have to go pick her up, come back here, make dinner, and then drive the kids back into town! NOT ENOUGH TIME!!!! Well me being the nice mom and dad just shaking his head and saying whatever mom thinks, says "call her and tell her change of plans. You will now be picking her up and taking her to dinner." So I send him in to shower and change and then he comes back out and says what am I doing for shoes? My church shoes are shot! SERIOUSLY??? Could this boy have planned any worse for this special day? Oh wait! He didn't plan! So now it is time to leave and we have no shoes. Ummmm.... try dad's shoes on son. Good thing dad's feet aren't too much bigger than Chad's! So after the whirl wind getting ready marathon he was off to his first date, at a bar, and Prom! They went to Applebee's for dinner. So he is having fun saying he had his first date at a bar. When he came home he said he had a lot of fun. We also had a talk about better planning and not trying to be sneaky! talk about making mommy irritated! Dad told him "your lack of planning doesn't make an emergency for me." So I guess he is lucky dad did all this driving and that he didn't have any other plans for his Saturday!
Chuck took these pics. Not the greatest and all I got. dang it! That man needs to learn to snap away like a mad man!
